  • February 2010: SKYCITY completes sale of its Cinemas business to Amalgamated Holdings Limited.
  • August 2009: SKYCITY completes a further buy back of US$62.5m (NZ$93m) of US Private Placement debt.
  • July 2009: SKYCITY completes a buy back of US$53m (NZ$84.5m) of US Private Placement debt.
  • SKYCITY increases its shareholding in Christchurch Casino to 45.7%.
  • May 2009: SKYCITY completes a further $43m placement to retail investors under a share purchase plan and top up offer.
  • April 2009: SKYCITY completes a $185.3m underwritten institutional placement of 71 million ordinary shares.
  • May 2008: Alistair Ryan appointed as Chief Financial Officer.
  • March 2008: Nigel Morrison is appointed Chief Executive Officer of SKYCITY.
  • May 2006: SKYCITY acquires remaining 50% of cinema joint venture from Village Roadshow.
  • June 2004: SKYCITY purchases the Darwin casino and hotel. The property is re-branded SKYCITY Darwin.
  • 2004: SKYCITY acquires a 40.5% shareholding in the Christchurch Casino.
  • September 2002: SKYCITY Hamilton opens.
  • September 2001: Name change SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited, to reflect the group’s broadening scope.
  • March 2001: SKYCITY acquires a 50.2 per cent interest in Force Corporation Limited, a cinema entertainment company, which is renamed SKYCITY Leisure.
  • June 2000: SKYCITY acquires the Adelaide Casino in South Australia.
  • December 2000: Queenstown Casino opens.
  • February 1996: SKYCITY Limited begins operation and lists on the NZX.


SKYCITY Auckland
  • 2008: Casino's Main Gaming Floor's first major refurbishment since opening is completed in February.
  • 2007: 'SkyWalk', the new Sky Tower adventure experience, opens to thrill seekers in November.
  • 2006: Bellota, a contemporary tapas bar designed by Peter Gordon, opens in December.
  • 2005: The Grand Hotel opens for business, offering five-star+ accommodation and a signature fine dining restaurant 'dine by Peter Gordon'.
  • 2004: Convention Centre opens to become the newest and most technically advanced convention centre in New Zealand.
  • 1997: Sky Tower opens, becoming the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere.
  • 1996: Casino and entertainment complex opens.


SKYCITY Adelaide
  • 2005: SKYCITY launches new facilities – new gaming areas, North restaurant, LOCO bar and a new entrance on North Terrace.
  • 2004: $20 million redevelopment of North Terrace “South Side” commences.
  • 2001: Re-branded SKYCITY Adelaide.
  • 2000: SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited purchases the Adelaide casino.
  • 1985: The Adelaide Casino, owned by the South Australian Government, opens for business.


SKYCITY Darwin
  • 2008: Purchase of adjacent Little Mindil property.
  • 2008: Casino celebrates 25th anniversary
  • 2007: Redevelopment of the existing complex begins in October.
  • 2007: Casino operator licence extended for 11 years in January and redevelopment of the existing complex began in October.
  • 2004: SKYCITY purchases the Darwin casino and hotel from MGM and the property is re-branded SKYCITY Darwin.


SKYCITY Hamilton
  • 2007: Rebo Restaurant and Bar opens in June.
  • 2007: Vue Bar opens in December.
  • 2006: Zone sports bar opens in October.
  • 2005: Riverside Entertainment Centre is acquired.
  • 2005: Additional shares are purchased to achieve 100% ownership in.
  • 2002: Casino and entertainment complex opens.


SKYCITY Queenstown
  • 2000: Casino and entertainment complex opens.


SKYCITY Cinemas
  • 2008: 10-screen SKYCITY cinema complex opens at Westfield Albany in April including first North Shore ‘Gold Class’ theatre.
  • 2006: SKYCITY acquires Village Roadshow joint venture cinema interests in New Zealand and Fiji.
  • 2005: SKYCITY purchases the remaining 49.8% of SKYCITY Leisure in May.
  • 2003: First joint-branded Village SKYCITY cinema opens in Auckland.
  • 2001: SKYCITY acquires a 50.2 per cent interest in Force Corporation Limited, the owner of joint venture cinema operations with Village Roadshow. Force is renamed SKYCITY Leisure.
