CVS Corporation Reports 10.3% Increase In July Same Store Sales
WOONSOCKET, RI, August 6, 1998 -- CVS Corporation (NYSE:CVS) today announced that same store sales for the four weeks ended July 25, 1998 increased 10.3% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales rose 17.6%. Total pharmacy sales represented 58% of total company sales for July.

Total sales for the four-week period ended July 25, 1998 increased 9.4% to $1.1 billion, compared to $1.0 billion in the prior year period.

Year-to-date, same store sales for the thirty week period ended July 25, 1998 increased 9.6% over the prior year period, while pharmacy same store sales increased 15.3%. Total sales for the thirty week period increased 8.3% to $8.5 billion, compared to $7.8 billion in 1997.

On a stand-alone basis, CVS’ same store sales advanced 12.7% in July, while Revco’s increased 7.6%. Year-to-date, CVS’ same store sales rose 11.7%, while Revco’s increased 7.3%.

CVS is the leading drug store chain in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Midwest regions. As of July 25, 1998, CVS operated 4,058 stores in 24 states and the District of Columbia.
