| CVS.com is the First Internet Health Care Site to Offer
Comprehensive, Up-to-date Health Information About Its Vitamin,
Mineral, Herbal and Neutraceutical Product Offerings
Continually Updated Information Will Also be Available to All CVS Pharmacists At Their Workstations WOONSOCKET, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2000-- CVS/pharmacy, the nation's #1 drugstore, and Intramedicine, Inc., the global source for integrative medical information, have taken the next step in their strategic partnership to educate consumers and pharmacists on integrative medicine by launching the health care industry's first and only online service to provide state-of-the-art, "real time" health information about dietary and nutritional supplements purchased by consumers. CVS.com offers Intramedicine's vitamin, mineral, herbal and neutraceutical monographs along with the online pharmacy's extensive offering of supplement products. This state-of-the-art health content is updated weekly, providing consumers with the best and latest information available to help them make informed health-purchasing decisions. This service is made possible by CVS.com's access to Intramedicine's proprietary online integrative medical research database. Intramedicine's supplement monographs at CVS.com are concise compilations of the most recent science-based data available on herbs, vitamins, minerals and neutraceuticals. Each monograph contains pharmacology, dosage information, interaction/depletion data and clinical application information that is consumer-friendly and easy to use. These fully referenced monographs are updated as the research is received and reviewed through Intramedicine's editorial review process, and data is posted weekly. Additionally, CVS has begun the process of rolling out this online service to all of its pharmacy workstations, enabling pharmacists to access Intramedicine's professional health content at the clinical level to assist their customers who have questions about supplements. All CVS pharmacies will have this capability by the end of Spring 2001. "This service is an extension of our commitment to provide customers with quality information regarding the health products they purchase from us," said Bruce Taylor, CVS/pharmacy's Director of Healthcare Marketing. "Intramedicine's expertise in integrative medical content makes them a great fit with our Quality Natural Medicine Program, which combines the quality manufacturing standards we demand for supplements sold at CVS with ensuring our customers are making informed health purchasing choices." "Thanks to Intramedicine's weekly electronic updates, our pharmacists will no longer have to rely solely on hard-copy, published reference materials that can quickly become outdated," added Taylor. "Consumer interest continues to grow in integrative medicine, and we are delighted to be helping CVS take a leading role in educating consumers and pharmacists about alternative medicine," said James LaValle, R.Ph., Intramedicine's Chief Clinical Officer. "CVS' use of Intramedicine's cutting-edge and clinically validated medical information positions them as an industry leader in integrative medicine."
