|Peterson Named Senior Vice President of Scripps Television Station Group|
CINCINNATI, May 3, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Bill Peterson, a veteran broadcast television executive with 30 years of news and station management experience, has been named senior vice president of The E. W. Scripps Company's (NYSE: SSP) broadcast television station group, effective immediately.
As senior vice president/television, Peterson has strategic and operating oversight responsibilities for the company's broadcast network affiliated stations. Scripps operates broadcast affiliated television stations in nine U.S. markets.
Peterson succeeds John Lansing, who earlier this year was named executive vice president of the company's Scripps Networks operating division. Peterson, 60, joined the Scripps corporate management team in January as vice president of station operations. Previously, he was vice president and general manager of WPTV-TV, the Scripps-owned NBC affiliated television station in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Peterson's career in broadcast television began in 1964 as a news photographer at WSPD-TV (now WTVG-TV) in Toledo, Ohio. In 1973 he was named news director at WSPD and then went on to serve in the same capacity for television stations in Cleveland, San Diego, Miami and Los Angeles.
Peterson has a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Toledo. He and his wife Kathleen have two grown children.
The Scripps television station group includes six ABC affiliates, three NBC affiliates and an independent station that operates in a duopoly arrangement in one of the company's NBC markets. The Scripps ABC affiliates are WXYZ-TV, Detroit; WEWS-TV, Cleveland; WCPO-TV, Cincinnati; WMAR-TV, Baltimore; WFTS-TV, Tampa; and KNXV-TV, Phoenix. The company's NBC affiliates are WPTV, West Palm Beach; KJRH-TV, Tulsa, Okla.; and KSHB-TV, Kansas City. Independent station KMCI in Lawrence, Kansas, operates in a duopoly arrangement with KSHB.
Besides broadcast television stations, The E.W. Scripps Company has interests in newspaper publishing, national television networks, interactive media and television-retailing.
In addition to the 10 broadcast television stations, Scripps operates 21 daily newspapers, four cable and satellite television programming services and a television retailing network. All of the company's media businesses provide content and advertising services via the Internet.
Scripps Networks brands include Home & Garden Television, Food Network, DIY -- Do It Yourself Network and Fine Living. HGTV reaches about 85 million U.S. television households and Food Network can be seen in about 84 million households. The company's television retailing subsidiary, Shop At Home Network, markets a growing range of consumer goods directly to television viewers and visitors to the Shop At Home Web site, shopathometv.com. Shop At Home reaches about 48 million full-time equivalent U.S. households.
