|Tomasik Named Executive Editor of Treasure Coast Publishing|
CINCINNATI, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Tomasik, managing editor of Scripps Howard News Service in Washington D.C., has been named executive editor of Scripps Treasure Coast Publishing Co. in Stuart, Fla. The appointment will become effective in March.

Tomasik, 45, will oversee the news operations of the three Scripps Treasure Coast daily newspapers, The Stuart News, Press Journal in Vero Beach and The Tribune in Fort Pierce. Scripps Treasure Coast Publishing Co. is an operating unit of The E. W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP).
The position of executive editor is newly created to address a growing need for improved news coverage coordination between the three newspapers, according to Thomas E. Weber, editor, president and chief executive officer of Treasure Coast Publishing. Tomasik will report to Weber.

Alan M. Horton, senior vice president for newspapers at E. W. Scripps, called Tomasik "one of our up and coming stars."

Tomasik has been managing editor of the Scripps Howard News Service since 1999. In that role he has been responsible for all facets of the daily news service operation. He joined the news service in 1997 as assistant managing editor/news after serving eight years as sports editor for The Cincinnati Post, which also is a Scripps newspaper.
Tomasik joined Scripps in 1978 as a sports reporter, sports copy editor and sports columnist for The Evansville (Ind.) Press. He left Evansville in 1985 as assistant sports editor to become executive sports editor for The Sun- Tattler in Hollywood, Fla.
Tomasik is a 1978 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis on journalism.
