Armstrong Awards College Scholarships to 20 Students

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Armstrong Foundation of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. awarded four-year college scholarships to 20 graduating high school seniors in six states.

The Armstrong Foundation annually awards scholarships to the sons and daughters of Armstrong employees and retirees who achieve high scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The Armstrong scholars, chosen by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, receive $2,000 annually for four years.

The Armstrong Foundation contributes more than $200,000 to higher education scholarship programs each year.

The 2008 Armstrong Scholarship recipients are:

Florida:

Thomas P. Gibble, a 2008 graduate of Gulf Breeze High School, plans to study mechanical engineering at University of Florida.

Georgia:

Samantha V. Whisler, a 2008 graduate of Jones County High School, plans to study biology at the University of Georgia.

Oklahoma:

Jacob B. Stinnett, a 2008 graduate of Yukon High School, plans to study physics at the University of Oklahoma.

Pennsylvania:

Daniel J. Bendit, a 2008 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh.

Ryan W. Cook, a 2008 graduate of Hempfield High School, plans to attend Northwestern University to study mechanical engineering.

Sarah E. Dickinson, a 2008 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, plans to attend Millersville University.

Matthew A. Duschl, a 2008 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, plans to attend the University of Notre Dame as a science/physics major.

Joshua W. Fritz, a 2008 graduate of Ephrata High School, plans to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University to major in business/finance.

Nicholas D. Grasberger, a 2008 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, plans to major in business at the University of Notre Dame.

Julia E. Keefer, a 2008 graduate of Hershey High School, plans to attend Wilkes University to major in pharmacy.

Matthew J. Kelley, a 2008 graduate of Donegal High School, plans to study criminal justice at Mansfield University.

Clare G. Nadig, a 2008 graduate of Manheim Township High School, plans to attend The Pennsylvania State University to major in engineering.

Reena R. Nagar, a 2008 graduate of Central Dauphin High School, plans to major in biology at Duke University.

Allison M. Putt, a 2008 graduate of Ephrata High School, plans to attend Lebanon Valley College to major in chemistry.

Zach B. Ramsey, a 2008 graduate of Hempfield High School, plans to major in electrical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University.

Kelly E. Sager, a 2008 graduate of Hempfield High School, plans to attend The Pennsylvania State University to major in biology.

Lauren R. Wanner, a 2008 graduate of Hempfield High School, plans to attend West Virginia University to major in forensic and investigative science.

Jiefu Yuan, a 2008 graduate of Manheim Township High School, plans to major in biomedical engineering at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Tennessee:

Chelsey N. Brunner, a 2008 graduate of Madison Academic High School, plans to study nursing at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Texas:

Nicholle L. Thelen, a 2008 graduate of Plano West High School, plans to study mechanical engineering at Texas A&M.
