SEMCO ENERGY Appoints Colleen Starring to City President Of SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, Battle Creek Division

PORT HURON, Mich., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMGS) today announced the appointment of M. Colleen Starring to City President of SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, Battle Creek Division. The Battle Creek Division distributes natural gas to more than 35,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in southwest Michigan. Starring succeeds Anthony M. Izzo who has been appointed Vice President of Engineering & Operations at ENSTAR Natural Gas Company, a subsidiary of SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Starring previously held the position of Manager, Central Operations and has been with SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, known as Battle Creek Gas Company, for 23 years. During her tenure, Starring has obtained vast experience in Operations, Technical Services, Marketing, Customer Service, and Accounting.

Starring will report directly to Jon Kosht, President of SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY. "Colleen's extensive experience will help guide this organization toward our goal of becoming one of the leading gas utilities in the energy industry. Her presence also will ensure that the cooperative relationship we have with Battle Creek's leadership will have mutually beneficial results for customers. Colleen is a life-long resident of the area and her appointment further demonstrates our commitment to this community," Kosht said.

Starring is a 1999 graduate of the Battle Creek Leadership Academy. She is a member of the National Association of Female Executives and an active participant in the American Gas Association and the Midwest Energy Association. Starring serves as Account Executive and on the Allocation Committee for the United Way.
