SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. Names New Gas Company Executive

SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. (NYSE: SEN) today announced the appointment of Eugene N. Dubay as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY headquartered in Port Huron, MI.

Dubay will succeed current SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY President Jon Kosht, who is retiring October 31, 2002.

Marcus Jackson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. made the announcement saying, We are fortunate to have an individual with Gene's vast experience and diverse leadership skills join SEMCO ENERGY.  He has a strong background in gas distribution operations, business development and finance, all of which will make him a great asset to the enterprise.

Since 1997, Mr. Dubay has served as President of the Kansas Services Gas Company, a division of ONEOK, Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He joined that company in 1996 as Vice President of Corporate Development.  ONEOK is a diversified energy company and the largest natural gas distributor in Kansas and Oklahoma serving 1.4 million customers.

From 1981 until 1996, Dubay held progressively responsible positions for the Southern Union Company based in Austin, Texas.  During the last two years of his employment there, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Missouri Gas Energy, an autonomous division of Southern Union Company.

Dubay received an MBA in Accounting at Texas A & M University in 1977 and earned his BS in Political Science in 1971 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
