SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. Announces New Senior Management: Michael V. Palmeri Appointed Chief Financial Officer, Doris F. Galvin Appointed SVP Corporate Development and Administration

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. (NYSE: SEN) today announced the appointment of Michael V. Palmeri as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, effective July 20. Mr. Palmeri, who previously served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (Phoenix, AZ), succeeds John E. Schneider, whose retirement from the Company will take effect at the end of this month.

George A. Schreiber, Jr., the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, said: "I want to thank John Schneider for his valuable service to the Company over the past six years. Initially as SVP and COO of SEMCO ENERGY VENTURES, then as EVP and COO for SEMCO ENERGY GAS Company, and most recently as the Company's senior financial executive, John made valuable contributions during a challenging time for the Company. I am also delighted to welcome Mike Palmeri, a seasoned financial executive, to the SEMCO ENERGY senior team."

At Pinnacle West, a diversified holding company with subsidiaries in various businesses including unregulated power production, competitive energy retailing, regulated electricity distribution and transmission, Mr. Palmeri held several increasingly senior financial positions from 1987 to 2003, including VP Finance and was the Company's Senior Financial Executive. He holds an MBA from Arizona State University, a 1980 graduate of State University College of New York, at Buffalo, and achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1986.

Separately, SEMCO ENERGY announced the appointment of Doris F. Galvin as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Administration, a new position. Mr. Schreiber said: "Doris Galvin will play a key role in helping us develop and implement a growth strategy focused on our core gas distribution business. We welcome her to SEMCO ENERGY, and to our senior management team."

Ms. Galvin, whose appointment is effective immediately, most recently provided advisory/consulting services to start-up ventures and established businesses including alternative energy providers, investment/merchant banks, and food manufacturer/distributors. She previously served, from 1974 to 2002, in a number of increasingly senior positions at CMS Energy (Dearborn, MI), including Vice President and Treasurer, and most recently Senior Vice President, Global Development. Ms. Galvin is a graduate of Spring Arbor College, Spring Arbor, MI.
