SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. Appoints Francis R. Lieder, Jr. To Director of Corporate Communications

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. (NYSE: SEN) today announced the appointment of Francis R. Lieder to Director of Corporate Communications of SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. headquartered in Farmington Hills, MI.

Lieder, who has been with the Company since 1997, will continue to report to Lila Bradley, Vice President of Human Resources and Public Affairs.

Bradley made the announcement saying, "We are fortunate to have Francis Lieder's vast experience, skill and knowledge of communications and public relations. He has been a great asset to the Company and we are pleased to make this announcement."

Lieder is a 26-year veteran of the gas industry. He began his career working in a variety of union and non-union roles for a large Michigan gas utility, where he spent his earliest years learning about line operations.

Lieder has planned hundreds of communication programs and media events, won numerous awards and written thousands of articles, one of which was published in the November 1999 public relations trade paper, PR TACTICS. He is an invited speaker at the American Conference Institute's May 2003 Seminar on Public Relations for the Energy Industry. Lieder has a Master's degree in Fine, Performing and Communications Arts from Wayne State University.
