SEMCO ENERGY Appoints Chief Financial Officer

PORT HURON, Mich., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert L. Digan II has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of SEMCO ENERGY (Nasdaq: SMGS).

SEMCO ENERGY President and Chief Executive Officer William L. Johnson announced Digan's appointment today. Digan assumes his new position on July 21, 1997.

"Bob Digan is a great addition to our executive team," said Johnson. "He has solid experience in mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, technology advancements and operational profit improvements. I believe that Bob Digan will be a real catalyst in helping SEMCO ENERGY achieve its long-term strategic and financial goals," he added.

Digan recently served as Chief Financial Officer of Supershuttle International, a Scottsdale (AZ) transportation company. He also held the CFO position at Northern Pipeline Construction Company and Kemper Management Services, Inc.

Digan is a graduate of Notre Dame University with a BBA in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant. His affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Bob and Mary Digan have five children. The family will be relocating to Port Huron in the near future.
