           SEMCO ENERGY Customers Asked to Use Alternative Numbers
                  Until Toll-Free Telephone Service Restored

PORT HURON, Mich., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY is asking customers to use the main office number -- 1-810-987-7900 -- to report gas leaks and other emergencies until toll-free phone service is restored in Michigan.

Customers calling the main office are asked to remain on the line following the automated voice message until a Customer Service Representative can take your call.

Customers in the Port Huron and Battle Creek areas may report gas leaks at the SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY Business Offices in those cities.

The Port Huron office, at 2915 Lapeer Road, and the Battle Creek office, at 55 Hamblin Ave., are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Customers are asked to stay tuned to local radio and TV broadcast media for updates.
