PORT HURON, Mich., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY (NYSE: SEN) today
announced that Washington, D.C. business executive Dr. Jack M. Albertine has
been elected to the Company's Board of Directors.
William L. Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SEMCO ENERGY,
Inc., made the announcement.
"Dr. Albertine's career in business and in government provide him with
unique qualifications. His service as the Executive Director of the
Congressional Joint Economic Committee under Senator Lloyd Bentsen brings a
new perspective to our Board. He is directly involved in the economy, as
evidenced by his recent association with Ark Capital, to acquire a chain of 55
midwestern Shoebilee shoe stores. As an experienced top management executive,
he's also very familiar with the challenges of leading a successful company.

Dr. Albertine is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Albertine Enterprises, Inc., an economic consulting and merchant banking firm
located in Washington, D.C. Albertine served as the President of the American
Business Conference, a coalition of 100 medium-size, fast growing companies
based in Washington, D.C. He reported to Arthur Levitt, Jr., the current
chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, who founded the
Conference. Dr. Albertine worked for Senator Lloyd Bentsen for six years and
served as the Executive Director of the Congressional Joint Economic Committee
when Bentsen chaired the body. He also was appointed by President Reagan as
the Chairman of the Presidential Aviation Safety Commission in the late 1980s.
He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia.
Presently, Dr. Albertine is on the Board of New York Stock Exchange-listed
Company, American Precision Industries, Buffalo, NY and is a director of
Intermagnetics General, Latham, NY, which is listed on the American Stock
Exchange. Dr. Albertine is frequently heard on "Marketplace" of Public Radio
International, appeared on NBC and ABC television and is regularly quoted by
prominent business and general interest publications.
