PORT HURON, Mich., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Barrett Hatches, SEMCO ENERGY
Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Public Affairs, recently was
honored as one of the top culturally diverse leaders in the nation.
He was among 15 African-American and Hispanic senior corporate managers
who received the National Eagle Leadership Institute (NELI) Eagle Award during
a November 5 gala in New York.
NELI is a national organization started in 1993 to promote leadership and
mentoring opportunities for minority professionals and young adults. The
Eagle Award recognizes executive-level leaders who exemplify success
professionally and through community service.

a strong work force by ensuring inclusion of all qualified candidates,"

William L. Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SEMCO ENERGY,

Company's Silver Sponsorship plaque during the ceremony.

and Public Affairs. He was named Senior Vice President in March 1999.

for V. Robinson & Co., a Kansas City, MO., management consulting firm. He
also has held management positions for North American Salt Co, Missouri Gas
Energy and the Santa Fe railroad.
