PORT HURON, Mich., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SMGS) today announced the acquisition of Pinpoint Locators, Inc. of
Fort Necessity, Louisiana. The engineering field services company performs
conventional and global positioning (GPS) system surveys of both interstate
pipelines and fiber optic communication routes.
William L. Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SEMCO ENERGY,
Inc., made the announcement.

The company will become a division of SEMCO ENERGY VENTURE's Maverick
Pipeline Services, Inc. Rod Tidwell, Vice President of Pinpoint Locators,
will become Vice President of the GPS Division of Maverick's Monroe,
Louisiana-based Pipeline Services Operation.
Pinpoint Locators, Inc. has annual revenue of approximately $4 million.
The acquisition is expected to be accretive to earnings per share.
SEMCO ENERGY VENTURES, a subsidiary of SEMCO ENERGY, Inc., acquires and
operates businesses involved in engineering and quality assurance services,
pipeline construction services, propane distribution, intrastate pipelines and
natural gas storage.
SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. also owns two natural gas local distribution companies,
SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, which is based in Michigan and serves over 250,000
customers, and ENSTAR Natural Gas Company, which serves approximately 100,000
customers in the Anchorage, Alaska area.
