SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY Eastern Operations Director Named an 'Outstanding Manager' by National Industry Magazine

PORT HURON, Mich., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Daniel J. Forsyth, Director of Eastern Operations for SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY, was named a 1999 "OUTSTANDING MANAGER" by GAS Utility and Pipeline Industries magazine, it was announced today.

Forsyth is one of three individuals, along with one six-member group, honored. The magazine covers the natural gas industry.

"I appreciate being nominated and it is an honor to be selected for the award, but the real credit for this goes to the entire Eastern District crew for rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done," Forsyth said.

Thomas S. East, gas company Vice President of Operations, nominated Forsyth for the annual award.

"Dan took on a number of difficult projects last year and, through persistence, innovation and sheer hard work, successfully completed them," East said. "I'm lucky to have him as part of a very talented management team."

In his nomination letter, East cited Forsyth for his work as Project Manager for the gas company's Field Order System, which allows service orders to be dispatched electronically; for maintaining a 93 percent meter reading rate while revising the meter reading system and for ensuring all mandated code-related work was completed as scheduled while maintaining an average response time of 30 minutes or less on leaks and emergencies.

Carl W. Porter, SEMCO ENERGY Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the gas company, said Forsyth is an example of the depth of talent at SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY and throughout the Company.

"We have a great employee team and that's being proven with Dan's award," Porter said. "I'm glad to see us start to get some outside recognition." Forsyth, 39, has been Director of Eastern Operations, which includes St. Clair, Sanilac and Northern Macomb counties, since 1996.

He is a graduate of Michigan Technological University and lives in Port Huron with his wife and two daughters.
