PORT HURON, Mich., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMCO ENERGY, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SMGS) today announced that Kansas City business executive Marcus
Jackson has been elected to the Company's Board of Directors.
William L. Johnson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of
SEMCO ENERGY, Inc., made the announcement.
"Marcus Jackson has an impressive background in the energy industry that
will serve as a tremendous asset to SEMCO ENERGY, Inc. and its subsidiaries.
We are pleased to be able to add his skills to the Board of Directors,"
He replaces Stewart Kniff, who is leaving the Board.

Jackson has been Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of
Kansas City Power & Light Co. since November 1996. He joined the utility in
1974 as an engineer. As a project engineer for Provo Arabia Ltd. from July
1980 through August 1983, he worked on the first steam-generated power plants
in Saudi Arabia.
Jackson returned to Kansas City Light & Power Co. in 1983. Among other
management posts, he also has held the titles of Assistant Director of Power
Supply, Senior Director of Power Supply, Vice President of Power Production
and Senior Vice President of Power Supply at the company.
While serving as Senior Vice President of Power Supply, Jackson also was
actively involved in the development of KLT Power, Inc., a subsidiary of
Kansas City Power & Light Co. He served as President and as Chairman of the
Board of KLT Power, Inc.
