MARYSVILLE, Ohio, Nov. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Miracle-Gro® and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Association have enlisted the help of Ty Pennington to return to Muir Ranch this holiday season and help with the expansion of a natural pollinator garden and to distribute fresh produce and Thanksgiving-themed food boxes to local families in need.

Muir Ranch, located on the campus of John Muir High School in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), is a two-acre urban farm that grows over 1,000 produce items per month. The produce grown at Muir Ranch and other regional farms supports a community supported agriculture (CSA) initiative where boxes of fresh farm produce are sold throughout the Pasadena community. Since its launch in 2011, Muir Ranch has both increased the environmental awareness of students as well as provided them with jobs.

The community event is Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 8 a.m. PT at John Muir High School. Volunteers from the Tournament of Roses and Miracle-Gro, as well as Ty Pennington, area students and community leaders expand the footprint of the campus’ pollinator garden in an effort to help revive the number of habitats for bees, butterflies, birds and other pollinators in Pasadena.

“We are committed to California and are proud to partner with the Tournament of Roses and Ty to give back to this community,” said John Sass, Vice President and General Manager of Miracle-Gro. “Programs, like the one at Muir Ranch, help students find inspiration in the most unexpected places. This year we want to encourage families, gardeners and flower lovers everywhere to step outside, get their hands dirty and find an adventure in their own backyard.”

Volunteers participating in this community event will break for a farm-to-table lunch menu. Ty Pennington, Miracle-Gro representatives, Tournament of Roses President and local dignitaries will be on-hand to provide support.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be here today and work with Miracle-Gro for a second year on the Rose Parade,” said Ty Pennington. “The company is doing great things in California – from community events like the one today, to connecting with farmers and brand fans from across California. This team is top notch and I can’t wait to share what Miracle-Gro has been planning ‘behind the seeds’ on their 2016 float!”
