A newly created community garden in Atlanta is changing the landscape of food sourcing for area veterans and citizens in need. With the support of ScottsMiracle-Gro's the 3X3 Project is creating a sustainable, organic vegetable, fruit and herb garden that will provide healthy food options for an under-served community in Atlanta.

The community garden is modeled after Victory Gardens, which originated during World War I and World War II to provide area residents with a place to congregate, enjoy the outdoors and produce food for the local community. The 3X3 Project is aimed at building on this history by assisting more than 6,600 disabled and homeless veterans in Atlanta.

"We are proud to partner with an organization that is making healthy produce available to our veterans," said Don Koon, district market manager at ScottsMiracle-Gro. " The 3X3 Project will also provide participants with the therapeutic benefits of gardens and green spaces, while beautifying the neighborhood as a whole."

The 3X3 Project's urban setting will feature organic options that are grown through a sustainable modular milk crate gardening system. The garden is named in honor of Jamaal Addison, the first Georgia war casualty in Afghanistan after 9/11.

Support of the 3X3 Project is part of ScottsMiracle-Gro's philanthropic and community outreach platform of Give Back To Gro. A focus area of Give Back To Gro centers on the environment and providing people with greater access to gardens and green spaces. The company has awarded hundreds of grants helping communities across the country create gardens and green spaces that promote active and healthy lifestyles.
