LSI Logic Ships Full Production 4Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs

- Customers Can Now Take Full Advantage of 4Gb/s Infrastructures for the Current and Future Performance Demands of SAN Applications

- Backward Compatibility Allows Users to Preserve Storage Investments

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) today announced that the company has begun shipping full production single- and dual-port 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) supporting all major operating systems to OEM and channel customers. Built with the Fusion-MPT(TM) architecture to speed product adoption, LSI Logic 4Gb/s HBAs provide end users implementing 4Gb/s Fibre Channel infrastructures, with unsurpassed performance and availability in any storage environment.

"Over the last quarter, the industry has seen tremendous interest in 4Gb/s Fibre Channel technology as users look to move high-bandwidth content more quickly," said Lisa Kimball, product manager for Fibre Channel HBAs at LSI Logic. "With LSI Logic's 4Gb/s HBAs now shipping, users can put in place a complete 4Gb/s infrastructure including arrays and switches, that will serve the performance demands of applications ranging from SANs to clustering, to back-up and recovery to virtualization."

The single-port LSI7104XP-LC and dual-port LSI7204XP-LC 4Gb/s PCI-X HBAs offer twice the performance of 2Gb/s HBAs at a small premium over 2Gb/s HBAs. Each adapter features 800MB/s full duplex Fibre Channel ports, and is capable of performing more than 160,000 I/Os per second. With LSI Logic's 4Gb/s HBAs, users transitioning to 4Gb/s SANs are assured of investment protection as the HBAs are fully compatible with 1 and 2Gb/s legacy products and can automatically detect connection speed so that each port can independently operate at 1, 2 or 4Gb/s. LSI Logic's 4Gb/s HBAs also support the T10 committee's new end-to-end error detection (CRC) for improved data integrity when reading and writing disks.

Users taking advantage of the LSI Logic 4Gb/s HBAs will also be able to leverage the company's MyStorage(TM) management software this quarter (Q305). MyStorage provides HBA monitoring, load balancing and path failover protection, and allows IT managers to control and configure any LSI Logic HBA in their SAN in three mouse clicks.
