Charles River Associates (CRA) Expands Labor & Employment Practice

Labor Economists Provide Deep Expertise In Applying Econometric Methods To Employment Issues

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2015-- Charles River Associates (NASDAQ: CRAI), a worldwide leader in providing economic, financial, and management consulting services, today announced that Elizabeth Becker, PhD, and Charles Diamond, PhD, have joined the firm as vice presidents in the Labor & Employment Practice based in New York. Dr. Becker brings extensive experience in the application of economics, statistics, and the management of complex databases to a broad range of employment disputes. Dr. Diamond is an expert in applying econometric methods to employment practices and damages in employment disputes. Both are highly experienced in providing expert testimony.

Dr. Becker has more than 20 years of experience assisting clients with self-reviews of employment practices, implementation of remedial action, and negotiation of settlements. She has provided testimony in state and federal court and in arbitration regarding class certification, liability, damages, and settlement. She has also opined on statistical questions and data integrity issues in warranty claims disputes and consumer class actions. In addition to her employment-related consulting, Dr. Becker has evaluated claims of discrimination in lending, education, and law enforcement. Prior to joining CRA, Dr. Becker was Senior Vice President and Labor and Employment Practice Chair at NERA Economic Consulting. She was also Assistant Professor of Economics at Clemson University. Her research on labor economics and statistics has been presented at professional conferences and has been published in peer-reviewed journals and publications such as Law360. Dr. Becker holds PhD and MA degrees, in Applied Economics and Economics, respectively, from Clemson University, and a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin—Madison.

Dr. Diamond advises clients facing class actions involving allegations of age, race, and national origin discrimination as well as pay equity studies. He has provided expert testimony in cases involving employment practices, lost corporate profits, product liability, and business interruption disputes in federal and state courts. Dr. Diamond testified in litigation regarding the appraisal and estimation of replacement costs associated with the collapse of the Twin Towers and associated buildings of the World Trade Center on September 11. Prior to joining CRA, he held senior positions with several economic consulting firms and was most recently Managing Director in the Economic Litigation unit with Alvarez & Marsal. Dr. Diamond’s research has been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Econometrics, and Journal of Development Studies, and he has presented his research at industry conferences. For more than 16 years, he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in labor economics, econometrics, managerial economics, and microeconomics at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, Texas A&M University, Utah State University, Clemson University, and University of Louisville. He holds a PhD degree in Economics from Texas A&M University, and MA and BA degrees, in Economics and Political Science, respectively, from Clemson University.
