| Louisiana Parishes Among First to Adopt New PLATO Learning Environment(TM) |
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2006--PLATO Learning, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTR), a leading provider of K-adult computer-based and e-learning solutions, is pleased to announce that Lafourche Parish Public Schools and St. James Parish Schools (Louisiana) have selected the PLATO Learning Environment(TM) (PLE(TM)) for their computer-based assessment and instruction. Together, the agreements totaled more than $900,000. The PLATO Learning Environment, released in June 2006 and licensed on a subscription basis via an Internet application service provider (ASP), integrates key aspects of the educational process--managing and delivering online courses and instructional content, assessing student progress and prescribing individualized instruction, managing standards, and reporting and analyzing data. "The primary reason we chose to migrate to the ASP delivered PLE is to shift the support burden from our Parish to PLATO Learning. We now have the use of PLATO Learning managed centrally by one person instead of having multiple platforms and multiple support staff at each school site dedicated to PLATO Learning," said Linda Dangerfield, special education supervisor, Lafourche Parish Public Schools. The PLATO Learning Environment unites all of the PLATO Learning Solutions used by the Parishes in one cohesive system that follows the PLATO(R) Student Achievement Model: Assess, Align, Instruct, Evaluate. First, the Parishes Assess all students through the use of PLATO(R) Assessment. The Parishes Align instructional resources to their textbooks, Louisiana content standards, and the Louisiana comprehensive curriculum using PLATO(R) Correlations available with PLE. Teachers then Instruct using individual learning paths prescribed through PLATO(R) Test Packs with Prescriptions. Finally, parents, teachers, schools, and districts Evaluate success by monitoring progress through the reporting features of the PLATO Learning Environment. Dr. P.
