Liberty Property Trust Employees Team up with National Park Service to Help Care for Martin Luther King Memorial on the 11th Annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA – June 20, 2014 – On Liberty’s national day of service in honor of its founder, Willard “Bill” G. Rouse III, the company’s offices in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. joined forces with the National Park Service to clean up the landscape that adorns the Martin Luther King Memorial and nearby Tidal Basin located in the National Mall.

“We are proud to partner again with the National Park Service for Bill Rouse Day of Caring,” said Mike Jones, vice president and city manager of Liberty Property Trust’s Northern Virginia region. “On our national day of service it is fitting that we team up with this important organization which for almost a century has been painstakingly safeguarding our national treasures. Today at the Martin Luther King Memorial, we were honored to do our part to help maintain this important piece of history.”

More than 30 Liberty employees rolled up their sleeves to perform general landscape maintenance and clean up work on the grounds of the Martin Luther King Memorial and Tidal Basin.

In addition, Liberty’s Washington D.C. team expanded their Bill Rouse Day of Caring program throughout the month of June, making it possible for tenants to show their commitment to service by donating to the Shoebox Project, working in conjunction with the United Way. In each Liberty building, collection boxes were made available for donations of small toiletries for families, young adults and veterans who need help in the Metro D.C. community.

For more than a decade, Liberty Property Trust employees have honored the memory of company founder Willard “Bill” G. Rouse III with a national day of community service.  It is traditionally observed on the Friday closest to his birthday, June 19, and celebrated by more than 400 employees in the company’s more than 20 offices in the US and UK.
