Liberty Property Trust Marks The 10th Annual Bill Rouse Day Of Caring By Contributing "Sweat Equity" To Habitat For Humanity Of Chester County

Nearly 200 employees from Pennsylvania and New Jersey trade cell phones for shovels in memory of company founder Willard G. Rouse III

MALVERN, PA – June 26, 2013 – Ten years ago, after the passing of Liberty Property Trust Founder, Chairman and CEO Willard “Bill” G. Rouse III, employees seeking a way to honor his memory launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. The national day of community service is traditionally observed on the Friday closest to his birthday, June 19, by more than 400 employees in the company’s 22 offices in the US and UK.

More than 200 projects and 20,000+ people hours later, the program marked its 10th annual observance on Friday June 21. In the Delaware Valley, nearly 200 employees from four offices joined together to contribute “sweat equity” to a Habitat For Humanity of Chester County (HFHCC) project taking place at Cambria Terrace in Coatesville. (Sweat equity is the term HFHCC uses to denote the contribution of work expected to be contributed by the future homeowner, family, friends and associates.)

“In many ways Bill Rouse Day of Caring is the best day of the year for us,” said Bill Hankowsky, CEO of Liberty Property Trust. “It allows us to remember Bill Rouse in a way we believe he would have appreciated, and it also serves as a reminder that we are members of a much larger community and that by pulling together much can be accomplished.”

Team members performed an array of tasks, from dry wall installation in homes under construction to painting homes that were nearly ready for delivery in HFHCC’s Cambria Terrace development. They completed a tremendous amount of landscaping, including planting 30 street trees and installing a new entrance to the neighborhood. To date, more than 30 sustainable homes have been completed at Cambria Terrace and more are under construction with six due to be delivered this summer. Each is designed with the goal of achieving LEED® Silver certification as designated by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Members of the team, which included Liberty’s corporate headquarters staff in Malvern and employees from its region offices in Philadelphia, Malvern and Horsham, PA and from Mt. Laurel, NJ, also helped to rehabilitate Valley View Park, a 5-acre inter-municipal neighborhood park between the City of Coatesville and the Borough of South Coatesville, with projects that include a refurbishment of the playground area and pavilion.

Caramanico & Sons, Inc., Centeno Landscaping, Inc., Eastern Janitorial Services, FMC Services, Inc., Horizon Sign, J. Snyder Construction, Inc., The Joe Hillman Band, Shearon Environmental Design Company and Waste Management.
