The Legacy Of Founder Bill Rouse Lives On Through Day Of Caring Program

TAMPA, FL – June 25, 2010 – On Friday, June 18, Liberty Property Trust employees from the Tampa regional office traded in their suits and Blackberrys for t-shirts and shovels to participate in the 7th annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. Liberty closed its 20+ offices for a full day so that teams of employees could work on community service projects in memory of the company’s founder, Willard G. Rouse III.

Bill Rouse was as committed to community service and involvement as he was to real estate development. When he passed away in 2003, Liberty employees sought a way to honor his memory and launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. It is traditionally held on the Friday before his birthday, each year.

To honor his memory the Tampa team partnered with Nanaks Landscaping and the Hillsborough County Parks Department to honor one of its vendors Mark Vennett (owner Cooper Vennett Painting), who earlier this year passed away. Liberty donated a bench (made from 100% recycled plastic) in his memory and placed it along the Upper Tampa Bay Trail where Vennett and his family liked to exercise. Liberty in conjunction with its vendor Nanaks Landscaping, created a shaded landscaped area surrounding the bench to give runners, bikers and walkers a nice place to break, stretch and frequent. Nanaks Landscaping donated its labor and materials and the Hillsborough County Parks Department approved the project. Liberty has also committed to maintaining the bench and its surrounding landscaped area in the future years to come.
