LIBERTY PROPERTY TRUST’S INDEPENDENCE PLACE IN CHESAPEAKE RECEIVES OFFICIAL LEED GOLD CERTIFICATION
Award Marks the First Office Building in Hampton Roads to Receive Certification
HAMPTON ROADS, VA – March 6, 2009 - Liberty Property Trust (NYSE: LRY), one of the largest owners and managers of Class A office space in Hampton Roads, today announced that it has officially received LEED® Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its Independence Place building in Chesapeake.
“By designing Independence Place and its systems to meet LEED Gold certification standards, we hope to improve operating efficiency for our tenants and reduce the overall impact to the environment,” said Craig Cope, vice president and city manager, Liberty Property Trust.
Independence Place is the first office building in Hampton Roads to receive LEED Gold certification. The 73,345 square foot building’s environmentally friendly features include: tinted, energy-efficient glass, certified renewable woods, waterless urinals, low-flow shower heads and sensor faucets, water-efficient landscaping, high energy-efficient HVAC equipment with special filters and carbon dioxide monitors, a highly reflective white TPO roof membrane, and low emission paints, carpet and adhesives. The site also offers preferred parking for fuel efficient vehicles, making it an ideal destination for companies seeking to be located in the heart of Chesapeake’s thriving business community.
In addition, a central area is provided for the recycling of office waste, and Liberty also provides off-site recycling through TFC Recycling, one of the leading providers of Responsible Waste Solutions and recycling in the Mid Atlantic. The maintenance of the building is supported by a green cleaning program that includes environmentally-friendly cleaning solutions.
This building increases Liberty’s ownership position in the Chesapeake market to 720,000 square feet.
Independence Place is located within a three mile radius of all major conveniences including Greenbrier Mall, Greenbrier Country Club, Chesapeake General Hospital, various day care centers, hotels, regional bank, U.S. Post Office and an abundance of restaurants and fast food outlets.
Achieving LEED Gold status for Independence Place was a group effort: the architect was Meyer Design Inc.; the engineers were Kimley-Horn & Associates, Wegmann Associates, BALA Consulting, and G.E.T.; the LEED consultant was ReVision Architects; the commissioning agent was BALA Engineering; and the general contractor was ARCO Design/Build.
