Developer's Day of Caring
Buildings and gardens belonging to a charity for adults with learning disabilities have been given a fresh look thanks to the hard work of staff from Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust.

They took the day off work to help out at Scotts in Tonbridge, where they spent the time painting inside the residential houses and laying paving slabs in the gardens.

The team were taking part in the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring when Liberty's more than 300 employees in the UK and US spend a day helping their communities in memory of the company's founder Bill Rouse, who died in 2003.

Scotts provides a safe and supportive environment for adults with learning disabilities. Its Development Centre offers a wide choice of courses to broaden horizons and teach key skills and there is also a residential home for 15 people, St Peter's Row in Delarue Close and two houses in nearby Shipbourne Rd which both provide supported independent living accommodation.

"This is the second time staff from Liberty have helped us out which is great," said community fundraiser Denise Tucker. "They worked incredibly hard and our residents were delighted to see the transformation.

"We have our own magazine, ‘Scotts News' produced by our people in Journalism Sessions at Scotts Development Centre and our journalists are looking forward to writing about the day. Two of our students had fun meeting Liberty's managing director Andrew Blevins and had their picture taken with him and Jill Scott.

"We are planning to expand our Development Centre because the provision of Day Services for disabled people in West Kent is very limited and we will be able to help support and develop many more students. All the help we can get, both with practical needs and fundraising, is very welcome."

Liberty's managing director Andrew Blevins said: "As well as helping a very worthwhile organisation, the day allows us to remember Bill Rouse in a way he would have liked and reminds us that we are part of a much wider community."
