DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA – June 26, 2013 – Trading their cell phones for shovels and laptops for hammers, Liberty Property Trust employees across the nation honored the memory of their company’s late founder by spending Friday, June 21 making their communities better places during the 10th Annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring.
Liberty’s District of Columbia and Northern Virginia offices joined together to complete refurbishment projects with the National Park Service at Logan Circle Park in NW Washington, D.C. The team was comprised of more than 30 employees and managers performing an array of tasks, from exterior painting projects to staining benches and general clean up.
Located within the traffic circle at Logan Circle NW and Vermont Ave, NW, Logan Circle Park is a residential park with sidewalks, benches and green space. The park hosts dog socials, picnics, bocce, croquet and badminton for area residents.
Liberty owns and manages three million square feet of office and industrial space in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia suburbs.
Liberty’s 10th Annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring Program
Each year for a decade, more than 400 Liberty Property Trust employees across the country and in the United Kingdom have participated in the program. A native of Baltimore, Rouse was as committed to community service and involvement as he was to real estate development. When he passed away in 2003, Liberty employees sought a way to honor his memory and launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. It is traditionally held on the Friday closest to his birthday, June 19.
To date, the company has dedicated more than 20,000 people-hours to projects as diverse as repairing homes for the elderly to collecting food for local food banks to hosting a fair for foster children (to encourage adoption) to upgrading a recreation center – and hundreds more.
