Program Offers a Chance for Employees to Give Back To Their Communities
SOUTH FLORIDA – June 24 2013 –On Friday, June 21, Liberty’s South Florida office rolled up their sleeves to participate in the 10th annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring, a national service program in memory of the company’s founder, Willard G. Rouse III. The 15 member South Florida team spent the day working on an array of jobs including meal preparation and service, distribution of groceries in the food center, and stocking shelves in the warehouse.
“It is extremely rewarding for our company to be able to give back and to partner with local organizations such as Boca Helping Hands, and to show that we appreciate all the great work that goes on in our community,” said Andy Petry, vice president and city manager for Liberty’s South Florida operation. “We look forward to this day every year, and this ten year mark is especially meaningful as we reflect on the numerous organizations that have been a part of Bill’s legacy.”
Boca Helping Hands opened in 1998 as a Food Center, serving hot lunches three days a week and providing groceries to families in need. Currently the Food Program has expanded to six days a week, including a once a week family night dinner, and meals are also delivered to homebound disabled and elderly individuals. The organization, through its Resource Center, provides help and assistance for people in crisis situations; and through its Job Mentoring Center, provides coaching, guidance and classes designed to help individuals who are seeking employment opportunities. Boca Helping Hands strives to provide compassionate service designed to instill dignity and break the cycle of dependence.
Liberty’s 10th Anniversary of Bill Rouse Day of Caring Program
For the last decade, more than 400 Liberty Property Trust employees from across the country and in the United Kingdom have traded in their suits and iPhones for t-shirts, screwdrivers, shovels and paintbrushes to participate in the annual program. Rouse was as committed to community service and involvement as he was to real estate development. When he passed away in 2003, Liberty employees sought a way to honor his memory and launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. It is traditionally held each year on the Friday closest to his birthday (June 19.)
To date, the company has dedicated more than 20,000 people-hours to projects as diverse as repairing homes for the elderly to collecting food for local food banks to wetland restoration to serving meals for the homeless– and hundreds more.
