The Legacy Of Founder Bill Rouse Lives On Through Day Of Caring Program

PHOENIX – June 22, 2010 – On Friday, June 18, Liberty Property Trust employees from the Arizona region office traded in their suits and cell phones for t-shirts and gloves, carpet cleaning machines and screwdrivers to participate in the 7th annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring.

Liberty closed its 20+ offices for a full day so that teams of employees could work on community service projects in memory of the company’s founder, Willard G. Rouse III. Bill Rouse was as committed to community service and involvement as he was to real estate development. When he passed away in 2003, Liberty employees sought a way to honor his memory and launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. It is traditionally held on the Friday before his birthday each year.

To honor his memory, the Arizona Office selected Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), a non-profit agency founded more than 25 years ago to help homeless men and women find their way back to self-sufficiency by providing services to address physical, emotional and employment needs.

“For the last three years we have had the honor on Bill Rouse Day of Caring of working side-by-side with the tremendous staff at Central Arizona Shelter Services,” said John DiVall, senior vice president and city manager, Liberty Property Trust. “Their impact is often unseen by the mainstream community in Phoenix. It is inspiring to see how they help our area’s homeless population deal with all kinds of challenges, often ‘under the radar’ and with limited resources.”

Liberty employees spent Bill Rouse Day of Caring helping sort and distribute items in the CASS Clothing Bank and by helping to refurbish apartments and completing minor repair work at the property.
