The Legacy Of Founder Bill Rouse Lives On Through Day Of Caring Program

ORLANDO, FL – June 21, 2010 – On Friday, June 18, Liberty Property Trust employees from the Orlando regional office traded in their suits and Blackberrys for t-shirts, shovels and paint brushes to participate in the 7th annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. Liberty closed its 20+ offices for a full day so that teams of employees could work on community service projects in memory of the company’s founder, Willard G. Rouse III.

Bill Rouse was as committed to community service and involvement as he was to real estate development. When he passed away in 2003, Liberty employees sought a way to honor his memory and launched the annual Bill Rouse Day of Caring. It is traditionally held on the Friday before his birthday, each year.

To honor his memory the Orlando team partnered with the Coalition for the Homeless and aided with its Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC). They helped to re-vamp the WRCC’s child care center, making it more functional for children of all ages to partake in after school programs and tutoring. This is the second year that Liberty has volunteered with the Coalition for the Homeless for its Day of Caring.

Coalition for the Homeless is the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida. As one of the few emergency shelters that accept intact families in Central Florida, the Coalition helps a large number of families in need of shelter and support. It’s WRCC has evolved over the years to become an important resource for single mothers who are homeless and/or the victims of domestic violence. WRCC is a 138-bed facility, which includes emergency beds for victims of domestic abuse. For more information please visit: www.centralfloridahomeless.org.
