Project Marks the First LEED Gold Certified Building Developed by Liberty in the City of Miramar
MIRAMAR, FL - April 27, 2010 - Liberty Property Trust (NYSE:LRY) today announced it has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its 110,000 square foot Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes building in Miramar.
“Achieving LEED Gold certification for Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes is a great accomplishment for the entire project team,” said Andy Petry, vice president at Liberty. “From the initial concept of the project, we had the help and support from not only the City of Miramar who encouraged and promoted the development of sustainable buildings in their community, but also the architect and contractors.”
LEED is the USGBC’s leading measurement rating system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and highest performing buildings. LEED Gold certification of the Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes building was based on a number of sustainable design and construction features that positively impact the project itself. These features include: enhanced daylight views, use of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified woods, waterless urinals, low-flow shower heads and sensor faucets, high energy-efficient HVAC equipment with special filters and carbon dioxide monitors, a highly reflective TPO roof membrane, as well as low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emitting paints, carpet and adhesives.
“Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes’ LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before and Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes is strategically located at I-75 and Miramar Parkway to afford easy access to major expressways, including I-75, I-595 and Florida's Turnpike, paving the way for efficient travel throughout the tri-county area and state. Located within 25 minutes of the Miami International Airport and approximately 20 minutes to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglade, Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes is well positioned in the airport submarket.
Liberty Center at Monarch Lakes marks the company’s first LEED Gold certified development project in Miramar and its sixth LEED building to open in the state. Liberty now has 520,000 square feet of LEED certified office space in Florida (with an additional 211,000 square feet pending certification).
