MALVERN, PA – December 19, 2012 – Liberty Property Trust, a leader in the development and management of high performance commercial real estate, today announced that it has crossed another milestone in its commitment to sustainability with the labeling of more than 100 ENERGY STARR buildings in its portfolio.

“During the last five years, while there was a lull in commercial development throughout the industry, we poured our attention into optimizing the efficiency across our existing portfolio,” said Bill Hankowsky, CEO and Chairman of Liberty Property Trust. “Today, we are pleased to announce that we have certified more than 100 buildings with ENERGY STAR, the industry’s benchmark for energy efficiency. It’s a tremendous accomplishment that is delivering meaningful results to our tenants.”

Liberty has reduced its energy consumption by more than 17% in the buildings in which it controls the flow of energy. The efforts have saved the company and its tenants more than $4 million since 2008. This commitment was the reason the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Liberty a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year earlier this year. The honor recognized Liberty’s excellence in managing and improving the energy efficiency of its entire office and industrial building portfolio.

“Saving money on energy is both good environmental stewardship and good business,” said Hankowsky. “Every dollar we save on electricity impacts our tenants, as utilities are usually ‘pass through’ expenses that reach the tenant’s bottom line.”

For more than a decade, Liberty Property Trust has led the commercial real estate industry in the development, management and operations of sustainable buildings. In addition to certifying more than 100 buildings with ENERGY STAR, Liberty has 48 LEED buildings developed or currently under construction and innovated and implemented proprietary technology such as BWAN (building wide area networks) that track and display energy use in real time for property managers.

Earlier this year, Liberty launched The Liberty Green Guide, a website dedicated to educating, encouraging and supporting the creation of extraordinary work environments that limit resource consumption, improve building performance and promote health and productivity. The site, located at www.LibertyGreenGuide.com, offers tips, checklists, resources, best practices and more.
