MALVERN, PA – March 1, 2012 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Liberty Property Trust a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for strategically managing and improving the energy efficiency of its entire office and industrial building portfolio. Through its partnership with the ENERGY STAR program, Liberty has improved its energy performance, saved money and helped to protect the environment for future generations.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ENERGY STAR program, EPA is proud to recognize Liberty Property Trust with the 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Liberty and all our ENERGY STAR award winners are improving the energy efficiency of the places where we work, play and learn, which is good for our climate, the health of our economy, and our future.”
For more than a decade, Liberty Property Trust has led the commercial real estate industry in the development, management and operations of sustainable buildings. The company has certified more than 89 buildings with Energy Star, developed more than 34 LEED buildings and innovated and implemented proprietary technology such as BWAN (building wide area networks) that track and display energy use in real time for property managers.
“At Liberty, we look at energy and greenhouse gas emissions savings holistically, and in the last three years alone the approach has saved $4 million. These are savings that pass directly through to our tenants,” said Marla Thalheimer, Sustainability Manager, Liberty Property Trust.
She continued, “From implementing energy conservation measures across the portfolio to developing a mixed use park at the Philadelphia Navy Yard with the greatest concentration of sustainable buildings in the nation – our goal is to deploy the tools that make the most sense and can have the most impact for the benefit of our tenants and the environment.”
EPA’s annual ENERGY STAR Awards honor organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. The award winners are selected from about 20,000 partners that participate in the ENERGY STAR program and will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on March 15, 2012. Over the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 350 million vehicles with help from ENERGY STAR.
