WASHINGTON & NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun. 27, 2012--
The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large
U.S. employers, honored Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ:HWAY) for its
commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and
encouraging its workers and their families to support and maintain
healthy lifestyles.
Healthways received the 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles
Platinum Award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National
Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce
Well-Being. Healthways was recognized for its Move to Health employee
engagement program. This marks the first year Healthways has received
the Platinum Award after receiving Gold award recognition for three
consecutive years. Platinum Award recipients are honored for established
healthy weight, healthy lifestyles programs with measurable success and
documented outcomes.
“We are very pleased to recognize Healthways for its ongoing commitment
to providing lifestyle improvement programs that encourage healthy
lifestyles for their employees,” said Helen Darling, President and CEO
of the National Business Group on Health. “Healthways and its management
team should be proud for their dedication and recognizing the importance
of promoting and maintaining a healthy workforce. We congratulate them
on receiving this award.”
A growing number of employers are recognizing the benefits of improved
well-being through lower costs and improved productivity. Healthways
offers Move to Health to all its colleagues and family members
regardless of health plan participation and focuses on improving
physical, social and emotional well-being while making the healthy
choice, the easy choice.
Move to Health provides participants a full range of personalized
programs, robust incentives and communications and preventive tools,
including a health assessment and screening; individualized health
coaching for risks and chronic conditions; online fitness and nutrition
plans; weight management and tobacco cessation programs; and free access
to fitness centers nationwide.
Three years of tracked outcomes data for Move to Health participants
confirms the effectiveness of the program. Medical and pharmacy costs
were stable over the three year period, while utilization of nicotine
products decreased by 30 percent. Participants at risk for high
cholesterol and high glucose decreased by 26 percent and 37 percent,
respectively, while weight increase risk decreased by 4 percent despite
the increasing average age of participants.
“The Healthways Move to Health approach is designed to motivate
participants to take charge of their well-being, thereby improving their
quality of life while reducing healthcare costs for the individual and
the organization,” said Jeff Klem, Healthways Vice-President of Human
Resources. “The overwhelmingly positive outcomes data effectively
validate our Move to Health program and demonstrate its importance in
creating a sustainable culture of well-being improvement throughout the
organization.”
