K-Tron Names Technical Center in Honor of Retiring Chairman And CEO Leo C. Beebe

PITMAN, N.J., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- K-Tron International, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTII) today announced the naming of its Pitman, New Jersey Technical Center in honor of Leo C. Beebe, who retired as K-Tron's Chairman and CEO on January 4, 1998. Mr. Beebe remains on the Board of Directors of K-Tron as Chairman Emeritus.

Mr. Beebe, who joined K-Tron in 1976 as a member of the Board of Directors, was instrumental in creating the K-Tron Institute of Feeder Technology, a hands-on training facility for K-Tron employees and customers, which was housed in the Technical Center before moving to larger quarters. The Center features a state-of-the-art performance evaluation laboratory (which allows K-Tron customers to preview equipment performance and assure end-product quality), meeting rooms, and a multi-media equipped conference center.

Mr. Beebe was Chairman from 1985 until his recent retirement and served as the Company's CEO from 1985 until 1992. He returned as CEO in 1995 when K-Tron faced some difficult problems, and he led a turnaround that restored the Company to solid profitability and financial stability.

Kevin C. Bowen, President of K-Tron America, the U.S. manufacturing subsidiary of K-Tron International, noted, "The naming of the Technical Center in Leo's honor is a tribute to his leadership, drive and commitment to K-Tron. He set us on solid ground and inspired us to take on greater challenges. This Center is a legacy to the Company that will remind us to follow his example to be the best we can be."

Edward Cloues, Mr. Beebe's successor as Chairman and CEO and a member of the Board since 1985, said, "It is of note that Leo started his professional career as a coach and teacher and never really quit playing that role. Throughout his life he has assumed the role of leader and mentor, and it is only natural that a technical center that promotes training should be named in his honor."

Prior to joining K-Tron, Mr. Beebe served at Ford Motor Company for 27 years in various capacities in the United States and foreign countries, including General Marketing Manager of Ford's Lincoln-Mercury Division, Vice President of Marketing and Planning and a director of Ford Motor Company of Canada, and Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Products Division and a director of Philco-Ford Corporation. He was also a Professor of Marketing and subsequently Dean of the School of Business Administration at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Among his many achievements, Mr. Beebe was the first president of the National Alliance of Business in Washington, D.C. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Reading Is Fundamental, the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey, the Coriell Institute for Medical Research, the United Way of Gloucester County and the Rowan University Foundation, and he also serves on the Management Institute Advisory Board at Rowan.

K-Tron International, Inc., through its subsidiaries, is a major producer of gravimetric and volumetric feeders and equipment for the handling of bulk solids, with facilities and customers throughout the world.
