- Public Event to Focus on Securing and Protecting Health Information
on Mobile Devices -
RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 8, 2012--
MAXIMUS (NYSE:MMS), a leading provider of government services worldwide,
announced today that it will assist the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health
Information Technology (ONC) in hosting a public Mobile Devices
Roundtable. The event will bring together public, industry and subject
matter experts to discuss real world provider usages of mobile devices
and real world good practices for protecting health information when
using mobile devices. The half-day public event will take place on
Friday, March 16, 2012 in Washington, D.C. and will also be available
via webcast.
The Roundtable discussion will help inform the development of an
effective and practical way to bring awareness and understanding to
individuals in the clinical sector. One of the key goals of the Federal
Health Information Technology Strategic Plan is to inspire confidence
and trust in health IT and electronic health information exchanges by
protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of health
information. ONC’s Office of the Chief Privacy Officer, along with the
HHS Office for Civil Rights, recently launched a privacy and security
mobile device project supported by MAXIMUS Federal Services. The project
builds on the existing HHS
HIPAA Security Rule - Remote Use Guidance and is designed to
identify privacy and security good practices for health care providers,
professionals and other entities that use health information on mobile
devices.
“The Mobile Devices Roundtable is one of the ways HHS is helping to
create conditions for health information to flow securely,” stated Joy
Pritts, Chief Privacy Officer for ONC. “This initiative demonstrates our
commitment to ensuring that privacy and security keeps pace with mobile
health technology.”
“We are pleased to help ONC present this important Roundtable event,”
commented Tom Romeo, President of MAXIMUS Federal Services. “Mobile
devices are a primary means of communication and information for many
Americans, so it’s important to ensure that their health information is
safe and secure.”
The Roundtable will take place at HHS Headquarters, in the Great Hall of
the Hubert H. Humphrey Building at 200 Independence Avenue in
Washington, D.C. from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT. For additional
