Russ M. Strobel
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer

Russ M. Strobel is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Nicor and Nicor Gas and serves on the board of directors of both companies. Strobel became chairman of Nicor and Nicor Gas in November 2005; chief executive officer of Nicor in March 2005; chief executive officer of Nicor Gas (November 2003); and president of Nicor and Nicor Gas (October 2002). He also served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Strobel’s career with Nicor began in 2000. Before joining Nicor, Strobel practiced law in Chicago.

Strobel is a 1974 graduate of Northwestern University with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. He earned his juris doctor magna cum laude from the University of Illinois in 1977, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Strobel is a director of the American Gas Association, a trustee of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a director of the United Service Organizations (USO) of Illinois, Inc. He is a member of The Commercial Club of Chicago, a member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and The Economic Club of Chicago. He is also secretary/treasurer of the Illinois Business Roundtable.


Richard  L. Hawley
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Richard Hawley is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Nicor and Nicor Gas. Hawley joined Nicor in 2003 and is responsible for the company's finance, accounting, treasury, investor relations, risk management and information technology activities.

Hawley was formerly the chief financial officer for Puget Energy, Inc., Bellevue, Washington and its natural gas and electricity subsidiary Puget Sound Energy, Inc. Previously, he spent 25 years at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), where he held various positions, including partner, responsible for serving clients in a broad range of industries, including publicly-held companies in the utility and other sectors.

Hawley received a bachelor’s of arts degree in business administration, summa cum laude, in 1973 at the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. Hawley is a member of the American Gas Association, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Washington State Society of CPAs. He is also a member of the board of directors for Fisher Communications, Inc. in Seattle, Washington.


Daniel R. Dodge
Executive Vice President Diversified Ventures

Daniel R. Dodge is executive vice president diversified ventures of Nicor. Dodge oversees Other Energy Ventures, the non-utility segment, including Nicor Solutions, Nicor Services, Nicor Home Services and Nicor Enerchange L.L.C. His responsibilities focus on non-regulated energy affiliates and business development.

Dodge joined Nicor Gas in 1998. Prior to joining Nicor Gas, Dodge was employed with MidCon Corporation for twenty-one years and held numerous positions including vice president asset development and occidental energy ventures.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1975 and a master's in business administration from the University of Illinois in 1977.


Claudia J. Colalillo, SPHR
Senior Vice President Human Resources and Corporate Communications

Claudia J. Colalillo is senior vice president human resources and corporate communications for Nicor and Nicor Gas. Colalillo’s career began with Nicor in September of 1998 as vice president human resources. In her role, she is responsible for Human Resources which includes compensation and benfits, payroll, medical, training and development, diversity/affirmative action, staffing, labor and employee relations functions. Colalillo is also responsible for leading the corporate communications, philanthropy, media relations, facilities and real estate functions.

Colalillo earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and a Human Resource Management Masters certificate from Northern Illinois University in 1997. She received a certification as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR) in 1993 from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Colalillo is a member of Benedictine University's Board of Trustees and and past member of the President's Society Council at Benedictine University. Colalillo is a member of the American Gas Association and serves on its Human Resources Policy Committee and Public Relations Committee. She is currently a member of the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC) as well as past president. She is a member of their Senior Executive Round Table and serves on the Public Relations Committee for HRMAC. Colalillo is a member of the Hawthorne Credit Union Advisory Committee and a member of the Family Shelter Service Advisory Council. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is a past state director and has served on the Area III board of directors for SHRM. She is a member of the Human Resources Association of Greater Oak Brook as well as a past president, receiving the Association’s first Human Resource Professional of the Year in 1993. She is a member of The Executive's Club of Chicago and a mentor for the Menttium Corporation. Colalillo was honored with the Influential Women in Business award through the Business Ledger in 2003.


Paul C. Gracey, Jr.
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Paul C. Gracey, Jr. is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Nicor and Nicor Gas.

Gracey joined Nicor in 2002. He brings 20 years of legal experience, primarily in the energy field. Prior to joining Nicor, Gracey was most recently vice president and general counsel for Midwest Generation in Chicago and prior to that he was vice president and general counsel for Edison Mission Energy Ltd. in London, England.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, with distinction, from the University of Michigan in 1981 and a juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1985. Gracey also completed the Oxford senior executive finance programme at Templeton College, Oxford, England in 1998.

Gracey is admitted to practice law in California and Illinois. He is a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, the Association of Corporate Counsel, and the American Gas Association, Legal Committee.


Gerald P. O'Connor
Senior Vice President Finance and Strategic Planning

Gerald O'Connor is senior vice president finance and strategic planning of Nicor and Nicor Gas. O'Connor has responsibility for risk management and insurance, corporate planning, rates, and financial analysis. Previously, he led the Continuous Business Improvement process, and earlier internal audit group and implementation of best practices in the gas procurement area. He has over 20 years experience as a senior executive with domestic and international manufacturing, energy, and high technology companies. His background includes business start-ups, mergers & acquisitions, energy marketing, risk management, international financial management and serving on boards of directors. Prior to joining Nicor, O’Connor was a partner with Tatum Partners LLC, providing financial consulting services to clients in the utility, investment banking and energy industries. Prior to that, O'Connor was vice president and chief financial officer of Aux Sable Liquid Products, a $500 million gas processor and natural gas liquids marketer, serving industrial and commercial markets.

O’Connor has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from University College Dublin, received a master's in business administration from Utah State University, and is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA). He has served on the board of directors of several companies, and is currently a committee member of the Chicago Sister Cities International Program.


D. Scott Lewis
Vice President Governmental Relations
Scott Lewis is vice president governmental relations of Nicor and Nicor Gas. He is responsible for community relations, economic development, state and federal legislative strategies and state regulatory activities. Lewis joined Nicor in 1984 and has worked in a number of positions including rate analyst, media relations specialist, supervisor division sales, and general manager and assistant vice president governmental relations.

Lewis received a bachelor's of arts degree in journalism from the University of Arizona in 1978 and a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University in 1994.


Karen K. Pepping
Vice President and Controller
Karen K. Pepping is vice president and controller of Nicor and Nicor Gas, positions she has held since 2006. Pepping began her career with Nicor in 2003 as assistant controller and became assistant vice president and controller in 2005. Previously, Pepping was employed by Wallace Computer Services as assistant controller from 2002 to 2003. She was also employed by Tellabs, Inc. as director of accounting and held various managerial positions from 1990 through 2002. She began her professional career in public accounting at BDO Seidman.

Pepping is a 1985 graduate of Bradley University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and received a master’s in finance from DePaul University in 1993.

Pepping is a member of the American Gas Association, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Illinois CPA Society.


Douglas M. Ruschau
Vice President and Treasurer

Douglas M. Ruschau is vice president and treasurer of Nicor and Nicor Gas. He is responsible for the treasury and cash management functions of the company as well as wholesale credit. Ruschau returned to Nicor in October 2007 after spending the past five years as vice president finance and treasurer for Peoples Energy Corporation in Chicago. He originally joined Nicor in 1980 and held various positions at Nicor and Nicor Gas, including assistant vice president finance of both companies – a position he held from 1998-2002.

Ruschau earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a master's in business administration from Loyola University of Chicago. He is a member of the American Gas Association.


Barbara  A. Zeller
Vice President Information Technology
Barbara A. Zeller is vice president Information Technology of Nicor and Nicor Gas. Zeller joined Nicor Gas as assistant vice president of the Information Services department in 1998. Zeller brings 30+ years of experience in information technology including positions in the manufacturing and distribution industries, as well as consulting assignments.

Zeller earned a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in 1980 and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1996. Professional memberships include the American Gas Association Technology Advisory Board. Zeller serves on the board of directors for the Rauner Family YMCA.


Kary D. Brunner
Director Investor Relations

Kary D. Brunner is director investor relations of Nicor, a position he has held since November 2008. Brunner’s responsibilities also include stockholder services. Previously, he was manager of financial planning and analysis for Nicor and Nicor Gas since 2007. Brunner began his career with Nicor in 2001 as a financial business analyst and since that time has held various roles in accounting, budgeting and forecasting. Prior to joining Nicor, he was employed by Crane Co., a diversified manufacturer, in various treasury and accounting functions.

Brunner earned a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration from Clearwater Christian College in 1996. He is a member of the American Gas Association and the National Investor Relations Institute.
