Ethan Allen CEO Receives 2003 International First Freedom Award

RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2003--Farooq Kathwari, Chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen Inc. (NYSE:ETH), has been named the 2003 recipient of the International First Freedom Award by the Richmond, Virginia-based Council for America's First Freedom (CAFF). Kathwari was presented the honor on January 12 during the National Religious Freedom Day awards dinner.

Kathwari was recognized for his work on behalf of the Kashmir Study Group, which is devoted to peacemaking and conflict resolution in Kashmir. Kathwari, who left Kashmir in 1965, is leading a campaign to foster unity among people of all faiths, with particular focus on developing a peace accord between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.

Other accolades Kathwari has received for is peace efforts include the National Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee and the American Muslim Achievement Award from the Islamic Center of Southern California for his efforts in Kashmir.

The CAFF has sponsored the National Religious Freedom Day awards dinner for eight years. Past award recipients include British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Steven Rockefeller, and Seeds of Peace, which is a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to preparing teenagers from areas of conflict with the leadership skills required to promote coexistence and peace.
