ANALYSTS QUESTIONS:

What is the difference between “written sales,” “net orders booked,” and “delivered sales”?
“Written Sales” are when a retail customer pays a deposit and places an order at one of our company-owned stores.

“Net Orders Booked” includes all orders placed at wholesale by both company-owned and independently owned stores.

“Delivered Sales” are recorded as revenue for the company-owned stores at the time the product is delivered to the retail customer.

What is the difference between “wholesale” sales and “retail" sales?
When we report “wholesale” sales, we include wholesale shipments to both company-owned and independently owned stores. In the consolidation process, we reverse the wholesale sales to our company-owned stores and only recognize sales revenues when the delivery is made to the retail consumer or when title transfers to an independent retailer.

What is included in “comp store” sales?
The comparable store sales figures that we report are for those company-owned stores that have been in operation for 15 months or more. Due to the custom order nature of our business, delivered sales from customer orders are minimal during the first three months of operation. We include relocated stores or stores acquired from independent dealers in the 13th month of operation as a company-owned store.

What is the difference between an “independent” store and a “company-owned” store?
An “independent” store is owned and operated by a licensed entrepreneur. Through the licensing process, Ethan Allen specifically approves each store location, and the independent operator agrees to follow Ethan Allen’s Standards of Operation. Company-owned stores are owned by Ethan Allen and operated by the retail division. From a consumer’s perspective, there should be no discernable difference between an independent and a company-owned store.
