|Globecomm to Discuss File-Based Distribution at SatCon 2011|
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Oct 11, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a leading global provider of communications solutions and services, will discuss the growing use of satellite networks and file-based workflows in the broadcast and media sectors at the Satellite and Content Delivery Conference and Expo (SatCon) 2011, October 12-13 in New York City.
Thomas Parish, Globecomm Senior Vice President for Broadcast Technology, will participate in a SatCon panel discussion on the topic of "File-based Distribution Over Satellite", Wednesday, October 12 at 11:45 AM EST. The panel will review how file-based workflows are used in the film and television industries, and will address the issues of initial content capture, multiplatform distribution, media asset management, workflows, networks and service providers.
"For broadcasters and others, satellite networks are increasingly seen as a practical and cost-effective way to intake, manage and distribute digital content on a local, regional or global basis," says Mr. Parish. "Broadcasters can now leverage today's more advanced satellite networks to intake content from almost any source or location, and then deliver it to consumers or corporate subscribers virtually anywhere and at any time."
The panel will be moderated by John McCoskey, CTO for PBS, and in addition to Mr. Parish, will include Bob Seidel VP of Engineering Advanced Technology for CBS Television Network.
At SatCon Globecomm will also demonstrate its worldwide network broadcasting solutions, including satellite, fiber or pure teleport delivery services, content aggregation and encoding, worldwide headend distribution, and robust disaster recovery services with full redundancy and fail-over switching. The Company delivers connectivity from eight different Teleports and over 48 different satellites, and currently broadcasts and monitors 100 high definition and/or standard definition channels, carrying 800,000 hours of content each year.
