TRANSFER ELECTION ALTERNATIVE - TAX FILING PROCESS GUIDE
This process guide provides information for former Thomson Reuters PLC shareholders who previously enrolled in the Transfer Election Alternative related to the DLC unification in order to make an election under section 85 of the Income Tax Act (Canada). Only Canadian resident taxpayers (and their nominees) were eligible to enroll in the Transfer Election Alternative.
You must have previously enrolled in the Transfer Election Alternative with Equiniti on or before August 24, 2009 in order to make a section 85 election. If you didn’t previously enroll, you should not complete any of the steps below.
Complete and sign two copies of your Canadian federal form (and if you’re a resident of Quebec, please also complete and sign two copies of your applicable provincial form).
Please consult with your tax advisor to determine whether you need to file an additional form if you are a resident of another province.
Before December 10, 2009, two copies of your completed/signed forms need to be received by Thomson Reuters Corporation. Please send your forms to us by overnight courier, hand delivery or mail to:
Thomson Reuters Corporation
After we receive your forms, we will sign them and return them to you.
You should then file your forms with the Canada Revenue Agency (and with any applicable provincial tax authorities). Please consult with your own tax advisors to ensure that all applicable forms are completed and filed in accordance with the Tax Act (Canada).
Additional information related to the Transfer Election Alternative and section 85 election is provided in our management information circular dated July 8, 2009, which you can access by clicking here.
