SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GenCorp Inc.
(NYSE: GY) announced that its subsidiary, Aerojet-General Corporation
(Aerojet), ranked in the top 15 manufacturers on the InfoWeek 500 list of
Leading Information Technology Innovators. Aerojet's Information Systems
department also provides support to GenCorp and its operating segments,
Aerojet Fine Chemicals, and GDX Automotive. Aerojet was ranked number 15 from
the list of 52 manufacturing companies.
"This milestone signifies an industry recognition of the work we are doing
to more efficiently produce increasingly innovative products and better serve
our customers," said Phil Wu, Information Systems director. "I am proud of
the ranking we've achieved and the success our company has met in embracing
new technology and using it to enhance communication and productivity
throughout the corporation."
The award marks the second consecutive year that Aerojet has been
recognized by Information Week Magazine for its innovation in the information
technology arena. Aerojet's application for the award was comprehensive in
nature, fully recognizing the methods undertaken to meet changing customer
needs. The organization developed a product called "AeroFrame" that is used to
communicate with and transfer data to customers through secured internet
communication. Built with security in mind, AeroFrame was used extensively on
the recent Aerojet-Pratt & Whitney Propulsion Association COBRA Engine
program.
Currently AeroFrame is being utilized on the HyFly hypersonic long-range
strike missile demonstrator program with Boeing Phantom Works, which is a
project for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the
Office of Naval Research (ONR) Aeroframe allows Aerojet's customers a real
time, secure, access to the technology, engineering data, financial status,
and other aspects of the dynamic HyFly development program.
In addition to work on the AeroFrame system, Aerojet (Information
Technology) I.T. is developing a cluster of personal computers that will
process engineering code for modeling engine performance, thereby improving
design processes and significantly reducing work time. The department is also
researching new scheduling software that will allow program management and
stakeholders to collaborate on enterprise scheduling. InfoWeek Magazine's
recognition of the company's innovation in I.T. work is borne out in the
AeroFrame system, the system cluster and scheduling software.
Aerojet, headquartered in Sacramento, California, is a world-recognized
aerospace and defense leader principally serving the missile and space
