TRAVELOCITY NAMES TOP 10 NEW YEAR'S EVE DESTINATIONS

Top-Booked Spots Reveal Where People Plan to Party

Southlake, Texas (December 20, 2010) – Travelocity today released the top 10 most popular vacation destinations to ring in the New Year, based on flight + hotel vacation package bookings. From raucous revelry to laid-back beaches, the list reveals the diverse locations where travelers plan to leave this year behind and welcome 2011.

"Though many people associate New Year's Eve with the ball dropping in New York City's Times Square, it turns out the Big Apple is not the most popular place to ring in a new year," said Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity's senior editor. She added, "Travelers who booked their New Year's Eve trips as vacation packages are ahead of the curve. This money-saving tactic is definitely a trend in travel for the coming year."

Travelocity New Year's Eve booking data highlights:

  • Las Vegas is the most popular destination.
  • New York City came in at number two.
  • Cancun is the only international destination on the list, coming in at number three.
  • Chicago, which ranked number nine last year, has catapulted to number five this year.
  • Los Angeles has dropped from number three last year to number six this year.
