TRAVELOCITY NAMES THE PRICE TO BEAT
Holiday Data Shows Consumers in Certain Cities
SOUTHLAKE, Texas (Nov. 02, 2010) – With less than four weeks to go until Thanksgiving, the beginning of November is a critical time for travelers still shopping for their holiday airfare. Travelocity’s Thanksgiving Travel Report shows average domestic airfare for the holiday is $378 roundtrip, a good price point to use when gauging a deal. However, travelers may be able to snag a cheaper flight depending on their departure city and flexibility on dates.
The Price to Beat for Your City
As the holiday approaches, planes fill up and travelers have fewer options, so waiting to book becomes a gamble on both price and availability. But how do travelers know if they’re getting a good deal? Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity’s senior editor, recommends knowing the average airfare from your city. Travelocity analyzed average domestic airfare from top origination cities and found that many travelers could indeed find below average fares – if they don’t wait too long to book.
“Travelers who haven’t booked yet should keep average domestic airfare from their city in mind as they shop and jump on a good deal when they see one,” Brown said.

Christmas and New Year’s Travel Highlights
Holiday travelers looking to book beyond the busy Thanksgiving travel period should also keep average airfare in mind. For the Christmas and New Year’s travel period, domestic airfare averages $457 and international airfare averages $900, up 13 percent and 15 percent respectively. Average domestic hotel rates are $185 and international hotel rates are $239 per night. Since more travelers take advantage of hotel stays over Christmas and New Years, Brown recommends booking a package deal that includes flight and hotel to save up to $525 per couple.
