Brings Outstanding Performance and Power Efficiency With Graphics Core Next Architecture and AMD Enduro(TM) Technology
SUNNYVALE, CA, Apr 24, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today introduced its full line of revolutionary
mobile discrete graphics based on the company's acclaimed Graphics
Core Next (GCN) architecture, which includes the AMD Radeon(TM) HD
7900M, HD 7800M, and HD 7700M Series GPUs.(1) New to the AMD Radeon
HD 7000M Series is AMD Enduro(TM) technology(2), the latest
cutting-edge power solution from AMD which automatically and
seamlessly switches between integrated graphics and the AMD
Radeon(TM) discrete GPU, depending on system or application
requirements -- helping to maximize battery life without having to
compromise performance. Based on the latest 28nm process technology,
and fully equipped with DirectX(R) 11.1 support, the AMD Radeon HD
7000M Series of GPUs represent the most feature-rich mobile graphics
launch since the company introduced its mobile product line.(3)
"Three years ago AMD set out to push the graphics boundaries on
notebook computers, and since then we've done exactly that with each
of our mobile launches," said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president
and general manager, GPU Division, AMD. "With our latest AMD Radeon
HD 7000M Series GPUs, we've introduced one of AMD Graphics' most
technologically advanced single-GPU notebook graphics processor ever,
brought GCN to the mobile market, and introduced AMD Enduro
technology, a cutting-edge solution that radically merges power
efficiency with performance."
With the AMD Radeon HD 7900M Series graphics processors,
ultra-enthusiasts can truly take gaming on the road, crank settings
to the max and dominate their games wherever they set their notebook
down. The AMD Radeon HD 7800M Series GPUs deliver exceptional
performance and provide top-tier mobile experiences for those seeking
to take advantage of the latest games and digital entertainment. The
AMD Radeon HD 7700M Series is meant for those users demanding
performance and power efficiency.
In addition to AMD Enduro technology, the AMD Radeon HD 7000M Series
GPUs are also equipped with AMD power gating technology, which
dynamically shuts down portions of the GPU when not in use, powering
them back up when workloads increase, and AMD ZeroCore technology,
which effectively powers the GPU down to a virtually zero-watt state
when the AMD Radeon HD 7000M Series GPU switches to inactive mode.(3)
The AMD Radeon HD 7000M Series includes:
-- New Graphics Core Next architecture for great performance: AMD's
revolutionary architecture uses 28nm process technology and provides
unified graphics processing and compute cores, which provides
cutting-edge gaming and compute performance, high compute density with
multi-tasking, and amazing scalability and flexibility.(1)
-- AMD App Acceleration lets you do more, faster: Enthusiasts will enjoy
amazing GPGPU performance and support for OpenCL(TM) and
DirectCompute APIs. It also supports new features in many top media,
entertainment and everyday productivity applications to help improve
overall user experiences.(4)
-- AMD HD Media Accelerator: AMD HD Media Accelerator has been designed
to help optimize and dramatically improve video playback on PCs by
taking advantage of the hardware video acceleration of AMD
Radeon(TM) GPUs. Users can watch the latest Blu-ray movies, online
videos and other HD content including DivX(TM) files beyond 1080p,
in full 3D with low power and low noise with GPU acceleration and
enhanced features.(5)
-- Next Generation AMD Eyefinity technology: AMD Eyefinity Technology
provides the flexibility to add up to six displays in a seamless,
easy-to-configure package. Enhancements for AMD Radeon 7000M Series
Graphics feature all-new support for stereo-3D, universal bezel
compensation and new display configurations.(6)
-- Microsoft DirectX Support: AMD Radeon HD 7000M Graphics GPUs fully
support Microsoft DirectX 11.1, which supports the most demanding game
titles when set at high resolutions at high settings.

Additional hardware (e.g. Blu-ray drive, HD or 10-bit monitor, TV
tuner, wirelessly enabled HDTV) and/or software (e.g. multimedia
applications) are required for the full enablement of some features.
HD Video display requires an HD video source. Not all features may be
supported on all components or systems -- check with your component
or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities and supported
technologies.
(1) The GCN Architecture and its associated features (AMD Enduro(TM),
AMD ZeroCore Power technology, DDM Audio, and 28nm production) are
exclusive to the AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7700M, HD 7800M and HD 7900M
Series Graphics.
(2) AMD Enduro(TM) technology requires either an AMD "A" series or
"E" series APU or an Intel processor, plus an AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7000M
series discrete graphics configuration and is available on Windows(R)
7 Professional, Windows(R) 7 Ultimate, Windows(R) 7 Home Premium,
and/or Windows(R) 7 Home Basic OS. Linux OS supports manual switching
which requires restart of X-Server to switch between graphics
solutions. Not all AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7000M series GPU features and
capabilities may be supported on all AMD Enduro(TM)
technology-enabled components or systems -- always check with your
component or system manufacturer for specific mode capabilities and
supported technologies.
(3) AMD Power Management technologies (e.g. AMD ZeroCore Power
technology, AMD Enduro technology and AMD PowerPlay(TM) technology)
are a family of technologies, offered by certain AMD Radeon(TM)
products, which are designed to intelligently reduce or eliminate GPU
power consumption in response to certain GPU load conditions. Not all
products feature all technologies -- check with your component or
system manufacturer for specific model capabilities.
(4) AMD App Acceleration is a set of technologies designed to improve
video quality and enhance application performance. Full enablement of
some features requires support for OpenCL(TM) or DirectCompute
(including AMD's Universal Video Decoder (UVD). Not all products have
all features and full enablement of some capabilities and may require
complementary products.
(5) AMD HD3D is a technology designed to enable stereoscopic 3D
support in games, movies and/or photos. Requires 3D stereo drivers,
glasses, and display. Not all features may be supported on all
components or systems -- check with your component or system
manufacturer for specific model capabilities and supported
technologies. A list of supported stereoscopic 3D hardware is
available at http://www.amd.com/HD3D.
(6) AMD Eyefinity technology works with games that support
non-standard aspect ratios, which is required for panning across
multiple displays. To enable more than two displays, additional
panels with native DisplayPort(TM) connectors, and/or DisplayPort(TM)
compliant active adapters to convert your monitor's native input to
your cards DisplayPort(TM) or Mini-DisplayPort(TM) connector(s), are
required. Support for six simultaneous displays may require
complementary products compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 Multi-Stream
Transport. Maximum number of configured displays may vary -- check
with your component or system manufacturer for specific model
capabilities and supported technologies. SLS ("Single Large Surface")
functionality requires an identical display resolution on all
configured displays.
