Webster Bank Promotes Madar to Chief Accounting Officer

WATERBURY , Conn. , March 24, 2011 — Webster Bank, a subsidiary of Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS), announces that Greg Madar, senior vice president, controller, has been promoted to senior vice president, chief accounting officer.

Madar will lead all accounting functions, including general accounting, financial reporting, treasury operations, Sarbanes-Oxley, and operational accounting. Madar has been with Webster since 1995, starting as vice president, tax manager. He was promoted to senior vice president, assistant controller in 2000, and senior vice president, controller in 2002. 

“I am pleased to announce Greg's promotion to chief accounting officer,” said Webster Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Jerry Plush.  “Greg has consistently been a significant contributor throughout his career at Webster and is deserving of this recognition.”

Prior to Webster, Madar served as a tax manager for KPMG, among other various positions at regional accounting firms.  He received a B.S. in Accounting from Fairfield University and is a graduate of the Webster Business Mastery Program through a joint partnership with the University of Connecticut. 

A resident of Wallingford , Conn. , Madar is also a Certified Public Accountant, a member of Financial Executives International, the American Institute of CPAs and the Connecticut Society of CPAs.
