Banco Santander-Chile: It is now possible to pay in Chile only using your phone

November 15, 2018 at 4:07 PM EST

(GLOBE NEWSWIRE via COMTEX) --Santander Wallet is the first app in our country that enables to pay in stores that have Contactless technology using your phone. The app, which can be found in the Android Play Store, uses the cell phone's NFC technology to communicate with the payment terminal. Once the client downloads and configures the app on their phone, they can pay with their phone using any of their Santander Mastercards by simply placing their phone close to the contactless POS, the same way they would use a contactless card. Through the app, clients can also block and unblock their credit cards, or save one of their cards as their preferred card of use.

Matías Sanchez, Commercial Banking Manager, highlights that "Santander Wallet is going to help the payment process be much more agile for our customers, since they will no longer be obligated to have their physical cards with them, even if they travel abroad. The advances Santander has done in terms of digital processes are evidence that we are willing to give our clients the best tools available to simplify their lives, understanding that they move in an ever more digitalized era, and this is something that they expect from us."

This app reinforces the security measures that Santander works with, for in order for the app to work the phone must have in place a blocking system (pin, pattern, finger print, facial recognition), an added step to the pin that is required to buy at any terminal. Also, the transactions using the app do not show the credit card number, as it uses dynamic data which are only valid for that particular transaction.
