Recognized as a “Financial Company that Cares”, a "Company that's
hiring" and a "Social Media Star"
MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2012--
Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) announced today that it has
been named to FORTUNE Magazine's list of the "100 Best Companies
to Work For." Capital One was recognized for being a “financial company
that cares,” a “company that is hiring,” and a “social media star” by
FORTUNE and the Great Place to Work Institute.
“Being named to FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list
means so much to Capital One and our tens of thousands of associates
because it is a reflection of the culture we've been creating for more
than two decades,” said Richard D. Fairbank, Capital One Chairman and
CEO. “Our focus has always been on hiring great people and then giving
them the opportunity to be great. From the very beginning, we have
worked to create an environment where our associates are empowered to
challenge conventional wisdom, take on new challenges, and chase their
dreams. Our great people and open culture have been the foundation for
our success as a company.”
Capital One was also ranked on the top 25 list of companies that are
hiring (having more than 700 open positions) and was recognized as one
of only nine companies that were called “Social Media Stars” for “using
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media to get even better.”
To pick the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” FORTUNE partners with the
Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee
survey in corporate America. More than 246,000 employees at hundreds of
companies responded to a survey created by the Institute, a global
research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world.
Companies are selected and ranked on the list as a result of their
Culture Audit©, which is completed by the company and
evaluated by an independent Great Place to Work team. This comprises
one-third of the total score. The Great Place to Work Institute gives
the highest scores to companies receiving the best feedback from their
employees, particularly along five dimensions: Credibility, Respect,
Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie. The remaining two-thirds of the score
comes from the employees’ response to the Institute’s Trust Index©
Survey, which is sent to a random selection of employees and measures
their perception of the workplace.

and related stories will appear in the February 6th issue of
FORTUNE magazine.
