|GATX Corporation Introduces GATX Rail Corporation|
CHICAGO, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GATX Corporation today announced that it has renamed its largest operating company GATX Rail Corporation. GATX Rail Corporation is the new name of the entity formerly known as General American Transportation Corporation. GATX Corporation is now composed of three major operating entities -- GATX Rail Corporation, GATX Capital Corporation, and the GATX Integrated Solutions Group.
D. Ward Fuller, president of GATX Rail noted, "General American Transportation Corporation was one of the few entities within the GATX family whose name did not include our most strongly recognized and respected brand --the "GATX" name." By more clearly identifying ourselves as part of the GATX family, we can better communicate GATX's ability to combine unique financing, asset and logistics solutions for our customers and partners worldwide.
Ronald H. Zech, chairman and CEO of GATX Corporation added, "At this same time, we are creating a comprehensive rail marketing initiative to meet the rail requirements of shippers and railroads, worldwide. This marketing initiative is called the GATX Rail Group and is composed of the 100,000 railcars of GATX Rail Corporation, the 50,000 railcars in which GATX Capital has an interest, as well as our rail partnerships and affiliations around the world. The partnerships and affiliations include AAE Cargo (Ahaus Alstatter Eisenbahn, Switzerland), GATX Rail Canada, GATX de Mexico, Southern Capital (US), GL Railease (UK), KVG (Kesselwagen Vermietgeselschaft mbH, Germany), and Locomotive Leasing Partners (US). A majority of GATX Rail Corporation railcars have GATX stenciled on their sides. The acronym "GATX" is derived from the company's historical name, General American Transportation Corporation. The "X" is a North American required designation for any railcar not owned by a railroad.
